Tim Parravicini – Horizontal Jumps Coach

Tim Parravicini is an experienced athletics coach, educator, and former Australian representative long jumper with a passion for developing athletes in the horizontal jumps. As an elite athlete, Tim represented Australia at the World Junior Championships, Commonwealth Games, World Cup, and World University Games, achieving multiple top-10 international finishes throughout his career. He was crowned Australian Long Jump Champion in 2002 and 2007 and recorded a personal best leap of 8.18m, ranking him amongst some of the best performances by an Australian long jumper.

From 2001 to 2007, Tim was an Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) scholarship holder, where he trained and competed alongside some of Australia's leading athletes under world-class coaching and performance support staff. This experience provided the foundation for his deep understanding of high-performance sport, athlete development, and the pursuit of excellence.

Tim brings over two decades of experience in athletics and athlete development. His coaching background includes supporting horizontal jumps programs at many of Queensland's premier GPS schools, including Brisbane Girls Grammar School, Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie), and St Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace. Across these roles, he has worked with athletes ranging from beginners to state and national representatives, helping them develop technical excellence, speed, power, confidence, and competitive success.

Alongside his coaching career, Tim is the Health and Physical Education Curriculum Leader at St Thomas More College. As an experienced HPE teacher and academic leader, he has extensive expertise in sport science, biomechanics, strength and conditioning, performance analysis, and long-term athlete development. His educational background allows him to combine evidence-based coaching practices with a holistic approach to athlete growth and wellbeing.

Tim's coaching philosophy centres on creating a positive, supportive, and challenging environment where athletes can reach their potential, build confidence, and develop the skills required for success both on and off the runway.

Jumps

The sprints training involves the best plyometric drills to enhance power and speed. Technical training to learn how to use that in races. Resistance training to push you to limits to find more speed on the track. The focus is to improve stride length and stride frequency to find more speed and distance in each sprint event.

The knowledge from an olympic hurdler as a coach really helps with the drills and technique to perfect the technique that is needed for this event to be able to compete at the highest level. With the element of working with the best sprint coaches to find enough speed to make the right steps by also having the technique trained by the best hurdles coach in the country.

The training involves plyometric drills to push the body to be quick off the ground and find as much height and distance as possible to reach their best on the track. With sprinting being key in this, drills to build that speed and control and balance to ensure contact off the ground is as light and quick as possible.
