Guest Speaker: Denise Boyd, Australian Olympian and National Flag Bearer

Denise Boyd, Australian Olympian and National Flag Bearer

Denise Boyd is one of Australia’s most accomplished sprinters, representing the nation at two Olympic Games (1976 and 1980), where she twice reached the final of the 200 metres, placing 7th on both occasions. A versatile and consistent performer, she also made the quarterfinals and semifinals in the 100m and helped the 4x100m relay team to strong finishes, including a 5th place in 1976. At the 1980 Moscow Games, Boyd had the honour of being Australia’s flag bearer at the Opening Ceremony. Her Commonwealth Games career spanned three editions (1974, 1978, and 1982), where she earned a total of eight medals, including gold in the 200m (1978) and 4x100m relay (1974). Boyd also competed at the 1983 World Championships in both the 200m and 400m, the 1977 World Cup, and two Pacific Conference Games. She held the Australian 200m record of 22.35 seconds from 1980 to 1994 and claimed multiple national titles—four in the 100m, six in the 200m, and one in the 400m. Her personal bests include 11.35 (100m), 22.35 (200m), and 51.48 (400m), securing her place among Australia’s sprinting greats.

Muscular Therapist Talk with Kieran (Stretches - Recovery - Race Day)

With 24 years’ experience in working with local, state, national and international level athletes, I have travelled to state and international training and pre-departure camps in Brisbane, Canberra and, Townsville having attended many Track and Field Nationals in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Tasmania, and Brisbane. I have also travelled internationally with teams to Switzerland, Germany, USA, Korea, France, Greece and Italy. My most recent competitions are the Brisbane Commonwealth Games and Invictus Games in Sydney, having also travelled with the Australian Team to the World University Games in Korea.

My special interest is in posture and its effects on the fascial chains changing the biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system. This is achieved by correcting alignment through selected stretching routines and specific soft tissue release. Posture and normal movement patterns allow an athlete to progress in their training program and technical performance.
